How do you send cheese by post?

We send our cheese hampers and gifts via tracked courier delivery between Monday and Thursday on an overnight 24 hour service.

Your cheese is carefully protected within the hamper in a cool bag which will keep your cheese cool through the delivery process.

If you are looking to create and send your own cheese hamper through the post we recommend you do the following;

  1. Select your cheese: Consider which cheeses are suitable for sending through the post. Soft cheeses (such as Brie) tend to be more delicate so would require more protective packaging than a hard cheese such as cheddar.

    Soft cheeses also spoil quicker so if you do need to send a softer cheese you'll need to ensure you include plenty of cool packs. Wax coated cheeses are perfect for sending through the post as they provide a strong protective barrier.

  2. Include refrigerated packaging: Cheese should be kept between 2 to 7 degrees Celsius (35 to 45 degrees Fahrenheit) -  even through transit. Select a suitable cool pack which will last 24 to 36 hours such as a Gel Pack which you can place in an insulated polystyrene box or mailing bag along with the cheese.

  3. Pack it: Remove your cheese from the fridge just before you are ready to pack and dispatch with the ice packs to avoid it warming up above 8 degrees Celsius (46 degrees Fahrenheit). Seal the packaging and add a note on the outer box, for the benefit of your recipient and the delivery driver, stating that the package includes cold produce and must be delivered/not left in direct sunlight – you want your recipient to put the cheese in their fridge as soon as it's been delivered.

    We would recommend adding note along the lines of ‘CONTAINS COLD PRODUCE WHICH MUST BE REFRIGERATED ON DELIVERY – PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE IN DIRECT SUNLIGHT – ENSURE DELIVERY IS MADE TO A SAFE PLACE'

  4. Send it out for delivery: We recommend using a tracked 24 hour post or courier service (we use DHL) to ensure your produce arrives cool. Arranging delivery between a Tuesday and a Friday will mean your parcel shouldn't be sat in a delivery depot over the weekend.

    Whilst it may spoil the surprise for any cold produce deliveries, we would recommend you liaise with your recipient to ensure they are at home on your chosen delivery date. It is also worth providing the courier with the recipient's phone number just in case there are any issues with completing the delivery.

Where do you source your cheeses from?

We select our cheeses from Britain's best artisan producers.

As with all of our products all the cheeses have been meticulously taste tested and compared with many other varieties to ensure only the very finest are being included within our British hampers.

Cheddar – Sourced from Godminster, a Somerset cheese producer who specialise in making very fine wax coated cheddar truckles using Soil Association accredited organic milk. The Godminster Cheddar is a mid to high sharp tasting cheddar with a long lasting creamy taste.

Stilton – Produced by Cropwell Bishop in Nottinghamshire, one of the three counties where Stilton can be produced under its protected status. We stock Cropwell Bishops ceramic jars. The stilton is rich and creamy and ideally suited to a fruit chutney and thick Scottish oatcake.

Lincolnshire Cheeses – We stock a very special range of Lincolnshire cheeses which are both award winning. The unique Lincolnshire Poacher Cheese, which has been produced by the Jones family since 1970 is a hard long aged cheese with a rich full flavour. The Cote Hill Red cheese, which is produced in the Lincolnshire Wolds on Cote Hill Farm is a semi hard cheese with a nutty sweetness and slight tang.

Are there any delivery restrictions for cheese?

As hampers containing cheese require refrigeration there are a number of restrictions for cheese hampers to ensure they arrive chilled;

  1. Deliveries can be made to UK mainland addresses only via 24 hour tracked courier.

  2. Deliveries can only be made Tuesday to Friday to ensure the chilled goods are not left in the delivery depot.

  3. Please provide a delivery telephone number for your recipient in case of any delivery issues.

  4. Please ensure your recipient is at home to receive their hamper as they will need to immediately refrigerate the cold produce.

  5. Delivery must be made on the date requested and cannot be delayed or redirected after the hamper has been dispatched.
What do you include in a cheese hamper?

We source all of our cheese and food from Britain's best small producers which we have carefully selected for taste and quality of provenance.

Each cheese hamper has a unique style, from port and stilton through to cheese and biscuits and chutney.

Accompanying the creamy British cheeses, you’ll find luxury crisps, crumbly Cotswold fudge and buttery shortbread biscuits, alongside a whole host of renowned artisan chocolate, savoury, and sweet treats.

All of the items included in each hamper have been specifically chosen to give your recipient a mouth-watering introduction to British fine foods.

What is Stilton cheese?

Stilton cheese is a type of English cheese which is made in Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire or Leicestershire. The blue variety of stilton is much more well known than the white variety. Stilton is characterised by the blue veins and strong flavour which is created using a saprotrophic fungi during the production process.

To compliment its strong flavour stilton is often paired with rich full bodied red wines or port. We recommend eating stilton with celery on oat cakes and with a sweet chutney such as red onion or plum relish.

Our favourite stilton is produced by Derbyshire based Cropwell Bishop who have won numerous World Cheese Awards and Great Taste Awards from the Guild of Fine Food. The traditional stilton we supply is contained within a ceramic pot which is usually decanted using a spoon.

What is Cheddar cheese?

Cheddar Cheese is a tangy tasting creamy yellow coloured mid hard cheese which originated in the Somerset village of Cheddar.

Whilst cheddar cheese is not a protected phrase, meaning the name can be used by producers all around the world for any natural cheese, the term ‘West Country Farmhouse Cheddar' can only be used to describe cheese created using local milk in the English counties of Somerset, Dorset, Devon and Cornwall.

We proudly stock cheddar from Somerset based ‘Godminster Cheese' who create a wonderfully creamy and sharp-tasting organic cheddar which is carefully encased within wax.

Godminster's cheddar has won several International and British Cheese Awards and is certified by the soil association as Organic.

Cheddar cheese is often eaten with sliced apple or grapes and is traditionally eaten with butter topped water biscuits, plum loaf or dark fruit cake.
